KEDS, “Wear Yours”

Aesthetic

Bright, poppy colors with high saturation showcasing various styles of the 1950’s + 60’s while maintaining a relevant edge within cinematography and editing styles. Models will be high energy, confident, carrying an attitude of lightness and play. Shooting styles will be both handheld and on a tripod. We will have diversity in our shots, which will be utilized in enhancing the energy and pacing within the edit. We will feature the landscape as an establishing element as well as a textural element elevating the overall look and feel within the spot.

Shooting on Film

Our direction to shoot on film is unanimous. It seamlessly aligns with the nostalgia of the 1950’s, 60’s and beyond while maintaining an edgy and culturally relevant aesthetic that is taking on commercials and short films by storm. There is a massive resurgence in 16mm + 8mm film, which has been utilized by clients like Amazon, Facebook, Nike, Gucci, GUESS and Converse to name a few. Motion picture film is the largest trend in editorial fashion and mainstream commercials right now, and we’d like Ked’s to be just as current and relevant.

We will have the equivalent of an ultra hi-res 2k image, similar to most professional cinema cameras out right now, but with even more dynamic range.

Meet Our DP, Steven Mastorelli

We have a wildly talented Director of Photography who is on board to shoot this. He has extensive experience working within this media. He has shot campaigns (on film) for clients such as Saucony, Fenty, Converse, and Nike.

Additional Editorial Moments

It would be helpful to have a backdrop on standby in case we would like to film the product in a “studio” esque setting. We can rely on natural light and simply have talent walk in and pose quickly before or after each scene is shot.

DRONE Shots vs Cinematic Filmmaking

Since we have so many scenes to shoot in one day, I am reluctant about using a drone. This process takes a lot of time and coordination, and I am leaning more towards the idea of brainstorming artistic ways to film this scene either by land or within another vehicle. I’m confident that we will still be able to capture the surrounding environment as well as the view of the ocean as a backdrop. My goal is to capture an intimate experience with the model riding the Vespa, paying homage to 1960’s and 70’s cinema. Here are some shots ideas below.

Fireplace / Bonfire

This will very much be determined during our scout day, however, I know we will be able to accomplish something similar to what we’re going for with some movie magic. The idea I mentioned during our call included working with a lighting setup that emulates a fireplace, here is an example of one.
